I Died In A Sacred Sweat Lodge: The Vietnam Minister Who Said No To God

The Story
Herbert, a minor clergy member who supported Vietnam veterans through spiritual ceremonies, had his NDE on November 14, 1992. It started during a Native American sweat ceremony when he felt chest discomfort from the heat and fasting. Symptoms worsened after the ceremony, leading to dizziness and breathing issues. His friend drove him to the hospital, where he likely had a heart attack. During the NDE, Herbert left his body and watched from outside the car. He traveled to hilly grounds and entered a tunnel, avoiding a fearful canyon of ashes and barbed wire. He emerged into a beautiful field of grass, flowers, and singing trees that welcomed him. Thousands of people cheered him. He met deceased family members and fiery light beings. A brilliant, living light embraced him as the Most Holy Spirit. He reviewed his entire life as complete and felt infinite love. The light asked if he was done and if he wanted to do anything. He requested time to reassure his family but refused to leave the light. The light sent him back. After the NDE, Herbert left the ministry for 10 years to seek answers. He lived on a Native American reservation and pursued spiritual quests but found emptiness. He embraced solitude, reconciled with his denomination, and lives as an ordinary person, still searching for meaning while making mistakes.
