Neil Helm: Edgar Cayce and NDE?
What Researchers Found
The Story
Neil Helm was a five-year-old boy in 1944 when he drowned in a hot spring in central Montana during a family vacation. He tried to swim but sank underwater. During the NDE, he left his body and felt serenity. He moved to a beautiful meadow, crossed a lake, entered a tunnel into a mountain, and saw a bright light at the end. The light appeared as God and poured love and forgiveness over him. God told him, 'It is not your time,' and he returned to his body. His brother pulled him out, and his aunt resuscitated him. After the NDE, Neil developed a close relationship with God. He gained psychic gifts, such as communicating with animals and composing music quickly. He pursued a career in space science, focusing on projects that served humanity, like disaster mitigation systems. He kept his experience secret for 31 years until learning about Raymond Moody's book in 1975. His life shifted toward research on NDEs and service to others.
“the light manifested itself as god i am the light of god and at five years old”
This NDE account contains no veridical perception claims whatsoever; it describes only a subjective spiritual journey involving leaving the body for a meadow, tunnel, and divine light, with no observations of the physical world or impossible-to-know details. The drowning and resuscitation indicate severe medical compromise, but lack of any testable perceptions limits evidential strength.
Score reflects verifiable perceptions reported. A low score indicates the experience was primarily spiritual or subjective, not that it didn't occur.
Was this Evidence Strength score useful?
Was this Experience Depth score useful?
Score reflects transformation as described. Domains scored 0 indicate the topic was not discussed, not that no change occurred.
Was this Life Impact score useful?
