If someone dies while deeply depressed or afraid, could their mental state pull them into a dark experience?

“And it was in that absolute darkness and panic that an interesting thing happened. It felt to me as if light came. It felt like light came and surrounded me. It began to comfort me. It began to, well, I, I began to ride above the accident scene out of that trauma. And I was literally confused. I'm like, whoa, wait a minute, I can breathe. I'm not in pain. How can I be okay? What's going on?”4:15

“it wasn't scary. Sometimes I say that and people are you know, think that that's a scary or a hard experience. It wasn't. It was somehow very calm, beautiful, loving, safe. I I wasn't even slightly worried. I loved it, actually, this feeling. And um I just kind of emerged there. Like, I had I felt like I had been there for a time, and maybe almost like I was being held kind of cocooned in um I you know, maybe like a good version of a coma, almost. Right? Just like a deep sleep. And so, I had sort of emerged”6:39

“I started to suffocate and I knew I was dying. But here's the strangest part. I didn't feel fear. As I watched people around me panic, a heavy calm settled over me. Everything went quiet. It was like time slowed down just for me. I looked around fully aware and began to make peace with what was coming. Then the ambulance arrived. They lifted me in and the moment those doors shut behind me, I died. I left my body. I could see it, but I was no longer attached to it. There was no pain, no panic, just”11:36

“certainty that they would be okay. The worries and responsibilities that normally occupy my thoughts seemed completely absent. There was no urgency and no emotional distress. There was simply peace. The experience felt extraordinarily real and vivid. I remember feeling that I could see everything clearly. The sense of calm and well-being was unlike anything I have experienced in ordinary life. I did not encounter deceased relatives, beings, tunnels, lights, or landscapes. The most significant aspects of the”1:47

“this horror in just a blink I went from that state of horror Melissa to one of absolute peace. It was just like And that was the sense of calmness and just well-being and I didn't know what happened, but it was like I didn't need to breathe, I didn't need to escape out of the tank, I didn't need to be anywhere else. just like this feels incredibly good. And then I like to bring the contrast that I experienced because people ask me, "How can you remember this?" First, because the trauma of the drowning, and second, because”3:21

“That's the way I felt during this experience, and wherever I was, I was so comfy, and it just felt so peaceful and calm, and I wasn't afraid; and I mean, normally if you were somewhere dark and couldn't, and didn't understand really what was happening, it would kind of be a scary experience, but it wasn't.”33:27

“And I even remember thinking, I've been really scared of the dark ever since my husband's death. And yet, in this blackness, I felt the most perfect peace. It was like it was generating peace, not just enveloped in peace, but it was actively creating peace. And oh, did that feel good for somebody who suffered with anxiety their whole life, that was just bliss.”13:12

“kind of strange. I'm in absolute darkness, but I felt like like anything was possible and everything was present. I it's very hard to describe but absolute darkness. So I know a lot of people that experience this darkness. Um it it can be very frightening but for me it seemed very peaceful and I was curious because I'd gone through you know all these commercial diving training. You go through oxygen deprivation training so that you know what it is so you don't freak out and you don't kill yourself.”13:13

“And when I am experiencing this terror, is when something incredible happened. I went from this state of terror to one of complete peace. It was like there was nothing to do. I didn't have to escape out of the tank. I didn't have to breathe. I didn't have to go anywhere. It was just the sense of peace, serenity, calmness.”1:57

“And it was at that point that I left the hospital, I left all the agony that I was in, and I left the drama of it all. And, and I suddenly, in a, in a much calmer place. I was in, like, what seemed to me at the first to be a darkened space, a darkened room, and I looked around me, uh, figuring that I was dead. I figured, okay, this is it. I didn't make it. And I didn't feel scared, I didn't resist it, and I didn't want to die. But I was, from what I've just been through, was, which was so horrific, it just felt great to feel calm and no pain whatsoever.”12:33

“Well, I immediately popped out of my body and found myself in this absolute darkness, but it was it was this calm, peaceful. You got to realize I just came from this raging sea that was freezing cold. It was in March. And suddenly I'm comfortable. It's quiet. It's absolutely dark. But I just died this violent death, and this felt very peaceful, and I didn't feel like I was alone. It felt like there was something greater than me there. I didn't understand it, but I could sense it. I could, you know.”7:08

“it's often called as disorienting or even scary but then were directed to calm themselves or simply found the light within themselves found it within themselves to become calm and present and instantly the fear Fear and confusion shifts into peace and building bliss. >> When I came to that sudden stop, it was literally fear gripped. >> And so she's experiencing this state as fearfilled, which does happen a small percentage of the time. >> And when I say I mean gripped me and it was like I could not you could not”3:48

“Um, and it was really about the emotional state I was in, and it was as if it was attracting negativity, and they, they just very quickly huddled around me, and it was a gradual process that felt to me like it took 30 seconds or a minute. I gradually was calmed. It was like they gave me a spiritual sedative. I just slowly, slowly came around and realized, oh, I don't need to be. It's alright. I'm in this beautiful, peaceful place with these amazing beings. I don't need to be afraid.”55:53

“I knew it was time to die, and I knew I'd held my breath for as long as I could, and I was in sheer panic, absolutely traumatized by knowing that this is it. And it was extraordinary feeling because as I took in that breath, what I expected was totally opposite. It was absolute peace. This peace sort of filtered into me. No fear, no worry, total peace. And when that happened, um, I just relaxed.”6:54

“When I realized that someone was my lifeless body, I felt a rush of panic, but as fast as that panic set in, it was lifted off me. I was emotionally pulled back from the scene. I felt indescribable peace and love. I knew everything was okay. I was okay. As I continued to watch the scene, I could hear everyone in the room and in the other rooms. I could see everything going on in the hospital and even outside.”5:00

“it. And it wasn't me as a persona, but it would be what I would consider maybe a higher self, a broader perspective of me. And it said, um, it's not going to be a bad death. Just give it about 30 seconds and it'll all be over. I felt completely peaceful, totally tranquil. I had no um no more terror, no more fear. I wasn't upset about the fact that I was going to die. I was completely totally at peace. But not just a relaxed peace, like a profound peace. It was definitely a state of of being that um was quite expanded, quite”54:59
